Who? What? When? Where? How?

This blog is something I have been meaning to do for a while now, but I have been putting off. This has mainly been due to laziness, uni work and mainly time. Time because I have so much work to do, I know once I've started this I will have to force myself to stop writing away when I should be writing my dissertation instead.

So the aim of this blog is to give people an insight in to the world of a graduating photography student, although I am fully aware that my situations and experiences may be totally different to others!

One thing I think my degree lacks in is preparing its students for the real world. We have a short professional practice module (this module involved putting together a CV, how to create portfolios, how to approach galleries and apply for grants) in Year Two and I was lucky enough to have the wonderful Rhonda Wilson, creative director of Rhubarb Rhubarb, which is a "is a West Midlands based photography training and development agency, which works to introduce photographers at different stages of their careers to those who can provide opportunities for future commissions, exhibitions and publication". I learnt so much from Rhonda and it was great to have someone who so heavily involved with helping young/new photographers teaching a subject such as professional practice.

So I'm currently in my final year of my degree at an Arts university based in the East Midlands, UK (Not mentioning the uni is intentional, as I don't won't to give people an incorrect opinion of the place)it has had its up and downs but I have mostly enjoyed it. I have met some amazing people here, and have been sicken by the equally amazing talent of my peers. My biggest regret is not taking part in the exchange programme, considering I got a place at Rhode Island School of Design, USA. Damn being a poor student!! Before I came to university I studied for 4 years (one of which was part time) at sixth form college, 4 years because I changed courses after my first year because I decided working with children wasn't for me! So I took A-levels and a foundation course/degree in Art and Design with photography as my specialism. I highly recommend foundations years!

Right now to bed, dissertation time tomorrow!
