Photo Festival

So for several years now my university has been holding an external degree show which they turn into some sort a photography festival around the city. I believe that we are the only university that does this and in theory it is a great idea, in practise it is great too. However it doesn't seem so great at the moment.

The year forms several groups and we have to locate empty shops, stores, galleries etc around the city, which is proving easier said than done. We thought we had found a great space, but this has now fallen through and we now have no where to exhibit. GREAT. So my group is back to looking for a place. On top of this there are certain estate agents around the city trying to play groups of against each other, and basically trying to get as much money as possible out us poor students as possible. NOT FAIR in the slightest.

Another problem we have here is that a lot of the gallery spaces have closed down and changed in to different venues or just completely disappeared (or had the roof taken off). There are a lot of empty shops/stores around the city but its just convincing the owner to let you use them for a month.

Another problem we are facing is that one of nicest and biggest gallery spaces in the city has been booked out by our tutors. They did this so we didn't lose it to another university or college because its a great space and they want to use it for an opening and closing party. Only problem is that no one knows who is allowed to exhibit in there.

So on Monday morning at 9.30 (oh dear god I do NOT do mornings) I am meeting with my group to discuss what the hell we are going to do. Fun fun fun.
